Joe now firing “the right people”?
Post by beyond on Yesterday at 8:58am

As we know Joe often waxes poetic about how he/LC now has “the right people on the bus” in terms of professors and such compared to the standards of the ‘old LC’.

So why is he firing them? Why is he now firing the very people he has brought in?

Rumor at LC has it that hicks (who used to post here in support of the administration) has been fired. When one’s contract will not be renewed for the following academic year- it is considered a firing, right?

I’ve heard from several sources that it took place in a private meeting between hicks and Joe. The interesting part is that apparently hicks’ boss (Guilbert and purported very good friend of Joe’s) had no idea until a week later that hicks had even been fired. I find that very odd.

How/why would one’s own boss not know one of their faculty (and department head) were fired????

Are we simply letting people go now just on a whim? It will be curious to see the spin on this by the administration but hasn’t a number of college rules subsequently been broken if Hicks was let go without his immediate supervisor being present or knowing why? I think we can all agree that Hicks on this board had been nothing but supportive of the needs of the school and at the same time open minded to what needed to be corrected. I would think that would be the model for what any president wants in a faculty member. i encourage people to ask Hicks to come back on this board and tell his story and then let it be known throughout CENLA as to what LC has done to him.

Plus, considering the state of the economy, it’s a crummy time to fire anyone without justification.

I am former faculty and friend of Hicks. It is a tragedy (should be criminal) what they are doing to him….not to mention his family! I am sure he would appreciate any news of job openings. Lets allPRAY that LC’s loss will be stellar gain for another college.

I would encourage anyone with any college connections to make inquires about openings in art departments nationwide for Hicks.

Does anyone know if Hicks will be replaced? I ask because I’m wondering if JoeCo is trying to trim costs by trimming faculty positions. Whatever the reasons are for the situation, I’ll certainly pray for Hicks and his family.

Agreed. It’s never stopped him before, though.

You all should try sending messages to hicks on SOLC. Maybe he’ll be able to log in and check them.

One or two people lost their jobs over the leak of the report about the meeting with the Arabs. Someone else likely will lose a job over the leak of the Aramark report about the conditions of the campus. If you don’t like the message, you eliminate the messenger, right?
