Today’s Gossip: Anonymous Donations, Athletic Director Resigns for Personal Reasons, Joe’s Trip to DC

Today’s Gossip – by J. J. Hunseker
Post by jjhunseker on Nov 15, 2010, 2:08pm

Greetings all you who are hungry for the gossip at LC. Introducing a new regular feature here on SOLC, I will be bringing you all the gossip from the beloved Piney Woods of Cenla.

Word is that Aggie Jo and a now former VP of Auxiliary Affairs/Athletics Dir/Director of Campusland Security journeyed to DC, Our Nation’s Capital, and met with the Ambassador from Kuwait. The topic of their meeting: the LC/George H. W. Bush Medical School. They actually shared with him the brochure that was recently posted here. No word on his reaction.

Additionally, there is no word on how Louisiana Baptists ( a relatively conservative lot) might feel about partnering with a predominently Muslim Country? Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows. But DO the good God Fearing folks of the churches in Louisiana KNOW their name (and donations to LC) is being used to further medical training for Islam?

More tomorrow.

I’m surprised by the development as well, but it seems to me that these two groups differ in a few particulars, but are essentially very similar.

It’s an interesting cycle to observe. The Bush’s have been in bed with the Middle East for decades. Meanwhile, both countries use the other as sort of a “boogie man” to incense their respective countries to war. Deplorable.

How do local churches feel about this, anyway?

On another note: I’d like someone to address the rumors from the comments section on the Tim Whitman town talk article. What was it they fired Dr. Duke for? “Moral turpitude?”

Today’s tidbit is that the faculty were called to a mandatory Faculty Meeting last Friday. They were instructed they had to help clean up the campus and decorate for Follow The Star.

Faculty in Bucket Trucks – hanging lights and greenery! Word is the college can no longer afford to pay the maintenance company to do these things – Faculty are Free Labor. Will we see them cooking and serving in the Cafeteria next? Mowing the Lawns?

Is it true that the college grounds are looking too well cleaned these days? Do you see many workers out trimming bushes and raking the lawns? Where is the money for general maintenance of the college?

It was announced at the Faculty Meeting last week that yet another “anonymous” $1 million gift has been given to LC for a new Theology School. Joe said “They [the donors] would be so embarrassed if we reported their name they would take back the gift” No formal announcement has been made via News Releases from the school, so verification is not possible at this time. We remain dubious.

How many large anonymous gifts does this make in the last 12 months?

The word around campus is that a certain Board Member hired a PI to follow a certain now former VP of Auxiliary Affairs/Athletic Director. Photos were obtained and presented to The President with the ultimaturm “He goes, or you BOTH go”. Guess we know which course was chosen. He is being paid through May 2011. His wife had left him prior to this particular item coming to light and his Facebook Profile changed from “married” to “Single” some time back. Last week that status was changed to “In a Relationship”. Some people just move fast. Finally, we understand the definition of “Auxiliary Affairs.”

Surely faculty are getting disgruntled with all these events? Anyone preparing to jump ship by the end of the semester? Or, has the Board been looking into the “affairs” of any one else at the college?

Tim Whitman allegedly has an adulterous affair with a student, and he’s allowed to resign quietly. Lori Thames faithfully serves the college for more than 20 years, and comes to find her locks changed and a security escort, then is given 24 hours to vacate? How do you explain that, pro-Joe’s? This is reprehensible. I haven’t been this disgusted with LC in a long time. I hope that you areashamed of yourselves.

Do you have proof that Tim was in an affair? Never let the facts stand in the way of some good gossip!

Scuttlebutt on campus is that it took 4 offers to get a replacement coach for the girls team. First Choice Sheila Johnson said no, 2nd choice said no. Third choice, retired former coach Frank Schneider said “Hell No” and they finally landed #4. He’s a former insurance salesman.

I have a question. What kind of severance is Whitman getting? I’ve heard something from two or three different people. I’d like to know what you with the inside sources have heard.

Word is that he is being paid through May.

Re: Today’s Gossip – by J. J. Hunseker

So let me get this straight.

My home church is giving money to LC. LC, in turn, is using the money that hardworking people are tithing to give an extra six months of salary to an adulterer (not to mention a man that had sex with someone’s daughter–someone that had likely made the assumption that his or her daughter would be able to attend college without a teacher trying to get in her pants.)

Why is this being done? Is this part of Whitman’s contract? Is this “professional courtesy?” What “good reason” do we have for this? Pastors in the LBC: How can you stand by and allow your churches to donate to Louisiana College, knowing those funds are being used in this capacity? Does this not strike you as a moral issue? Baptists have boycotted for a lot less.

Do you have proof that Tim did these things? Nope. Guess a friend sending you a facebook message is enough to smear someone’s name? Time to grow up!

I would be wary of accepting gossip as fact at any time, especially on the Internet from an anonymous source. It could be someone said “he may get severance pay.” By the time it went through the rumor mill and came out the other side it became “he’s getting paid until May.” : )

I got it from an insider – not anonymously on the internet. Why they did not invoke the “moral terpetude” clause of his contract is beyond imagination, because as you know asa the pictures and the PI data are real and irrefutable. Where do you think I get the “gossip” for my column – WikiLeaks?

Why till May? Is he legally separated? Pictures of what? Sure is a lot of rumors or so called facts being thrown out that I have a tough time believing you know. Who hired a PI? How did you see the so called video or the pics. I believe it sounds a little like ASA said. The facts have been exaggerated with no proof except here say! But don’t let that stop you!

If you will read my post of Nov 18 you will see who got the pics. It’s possible I am the Board Member. Carefully groomed and elected to be hidden on the Board as an insider for those in the Conv. that are suspect of the current regime.

This isn’t funny. I’m appalled that some of you are handling this so flippantly. If this is true, this man shouldn’t ever be allowed to coach or teach again; this is a major trust violation. Would you let this man be alone with your teenager?

It’s not unreasonable to want to know if this is true, and to compare sources as well as we can. A lot of us on this board can’t specifically say where we’ve heard this information because our friends and loved ones are still attending, employed at, or related to someone attending or employed at LC. I heard this story–with no discrepancies–from three different people before it broke on SOLC.

By all means, though, don’t let scruples or morality get in the way of being antagonistic.

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” John 3:19-21

Was this a current player of his? Does he teach? That would be the only trust violation that would warrant him not teaching or coaching again?

Re: Today’s Gossip – by J. J. Hunseker
Post by gaylbcpastor on Dec 3, 2010, 9:15am

I have to ask this person: “if the student was not a current player then you would permit this relationship?” Or “Just because he doesn’t “teach” (that is as a professor or some formal classroom instructor) then it is ok for a staff member to have these relationships?”

I also thought the gentleman was married? So, it is OK for him to have this relationship with a student, or former student, or former player? Just as long as he is not having it with a current player on his Team?

And should we discuss the issue of emotional infidelity? Being an adulterer is not just confined to the physical act of sex. The Bible teaches, and the vows most people take in their wedding ceremonies include, that we must be faithful in heart and mind as well. In fact, I posit that my devotion to my family is far more important than meaningless outside sex.

But I gather from the discussion that I have had with a few other pastors around the state, that this man had a long-term, emotional, AND repeated physical relationship with this student/formerstudent. This, in most minds, constitutes a far greater sin of infidelity and adultery, than a 1 time, nameless, meaningless act of sex.

Word in academic circles around the country is that if every Faculty Member who has a CV submitted somewhere actually gets hired, there will be a bigger Exodus than in 2005/6.

I have heard the same. People of integrity can’t get out quickly enough.

I wonder the chances LC will have of attracting quality employees who will bolster LC if Joe’s regime is allowed to continue even into the next academic year? Seems to be a house of cards. With the advent of the internet it’s quite easy for one to search a prospective place of employment and decide to not even risk employ at a tenuous instituion.

Personally, I find Joe’s left-and-right announcements of schools of this and that, hilarious. Wonder if he’s trying to deflect growing heat? Hmmmm
